Wanda Kison, age 93, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at RiverStone Hospice in Billings.

Wanda was born on May 9, 1923 at the Abbey Hospital in Miles City, Montana, the daughter of Clem and Nana (Bottles) Adamson.  She was raised on her dad’s homestead near Epsie, Montana in Powder River County and she was an only child.  She attended a one room grade school called Two Tree.  She rode a horse three miles each way to school.  She attended her freshman year of school in Miles City and the remaining three in Broadus where she graduated in May of 1940.  The next two years she cooked noon meals for students in the newer Two Tree School by the highway on a government project.  In 1942, her dad sold his place and moved to a small farm five miles east of Miles City.  She worked as a clerk in Sawyers, Penney’s, Firestone and Montgomery Wards.  She married John Kison in July 1953.  They had a foster home in their home for 18 years and she also babysat in her home for 27 years.  Her husband died in July 1989.  She had a stroke in November 2007 and lived with her son Dale and his wife Joann in Colstrip for three and a half years.  She moved back to Miles City in 2011 where she lived until her failing health forced her to move to Billings.

Wanda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Wanda is survived by her children:  Gerry (Gail) Kison of Helena, MT; Dale (Joann) Kison of Colstrip, M T; and Karma (Jack) Johnson of Rock Springs, WY; five grandchildren:  Kim (Mike) Becker of Ault, CO; Kollette (Gary) Rightsell of Wellington, CO and her twin brother Koley Kison of Fort Collins, CO; Tony (Shilo) Kison of Billings, Kay (Montie) Bilbro of  Colstrip, MT; Nick Kison of Helena, MT; her great grandchildren:  Ryan Kison,  Kaitlin Becker, Chalon Bilbro, Deja Bilbro, Ella Bilbro, Steven, James, Beth & Megan; and one great great grandson Liam.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

    Gerry and Karma,
I’m so sorry to hear of Wanda’s passing. I have so many fond memories of her from the time that she was our babysitter. She was a truly important part of my childhood and of the person that I have become. Thank you for sharing her with us. You are in my prayers

Karma, I just read of the passing of your mom in the Broadus paper! Felt I had known her, from the stories you used to tell of her childhood! I have wondered how you are doing. Would love to have a good chat. Please know I am thinking about you, knowing you have wonderful memories of your mom.
